Standard of Practice RFI

The ASHI Standards Committee is charged with responding to questions regarding interpretation of the Standards of Practice (SoP). The questions must be submitted by ASHI Members on the Request For Interpretation (RFI) form.

In the past, interpretations were given only to the individual submitting the RFI. During its 10/27/01 meeting, the ASHI Board of Directors authorized providing all interpretations to ASHI membership with the intent of improving understanding of the SoP and CoE and to avoid similar questions being asked repeatedly. In some cases, particularly significant interpretations may also be released or announced publicly if such public announcements would be beneficial for public understanding and/or affect the competitive position of the membership as determined by ASHI leadership.

Below are the RFI interpretations that have been issued for the SoP. The RFI interpretations are listed in the order of their identification numbers which correspond to a specific version of the SoP.

Those begining with “S06” or higher are based on the Standards of Practice effective October 15, 2006.

Those begining with “S02” or lower are based on the Standards of Practice effective prior to 2006.

The information provided is limited to the RFI’s identification number, the date of the interpretation, the question asked, and the interpretation. However, there is no guarantee of requestor’s anonymity. Requestors themselves might reveal their identities on their own, the identity of a requestor might be deduced from facts of the question and reply, or a requestor’s identity might become known by other means.
