SUMMARY:EV Charging Systems and 10-Amp Lighting Circuits
DESCRIPTION:New EV Charging & Lighting Circuit Requirements   \nAdvancement in technology always presents new challenges to home inspectors. Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly common\, and understanding the power systems for EV charging in both commercial and residential settings requires additional training. New code changes now also allow 10-amp branch circuits for lighting\, with changing conductor size requirements. Our EV Charging Systems and 10-Amp Lighting Circuits virtual class is specifically designed for home inspectors who need to properly inspect these newer systems and circuits. \nWhat You Will Learn \nIn this 3-hour interactive class designed for home inspectors\, you will: \n\nUnderstand EV Charging System Levels and Terminology\nGain a thorough understanding of Level 1\, 2\, and 3 EV charging supplies\, including the different voltages\, amperages\, options\, and common terms and definitions used in the field.\n\n\nInspect Level 2 Charging Systems in Depth\nExamine Level 2 charging systems in detail\, covering receptacle types and ratings\, load management options\, adapters\, different manufacturers’ configurations\, GFCI requirements\, and continuous load considerations.\n\n\nEvaluate 10-Amp Lighting Circuits and Conductor Requirements\nCompare lighting loads between LED luminaires\, incandescent\, and fluorescent fixtures\, and learn the permissible loads on 10-amp circuits\, including new code allowances and how to identify compliant installations.\n\n\nIdentify Copper-Clad Aluminum Conductors\nLearn about copper-clad aluminum conductors\, including cable types\, manufacturers\, ampacity ratings\, permitted usage\, and identification techniques to ensure accurate and safe inspection reporting.\n\n\nApply Overcurrent Protection and GFCI Standards\nUnderstand overcurrent protection\, GFCI requirements\, maximum loads\, conductor ampacities\, and receptacle ratings as they apply to EV charging and 10-amp lighting circuits.\n\n\nRecognize Potential Issues and Know Your Responsibilities\nReview photo examples of different installations\, learn what potential issues to look for\, and clearly understand the inspector’s responsibilities and limitations when encountering these newer systems.\n\nInstructor: Mike Twitty \nClass Format \nASHI Virtual Classes are designed to be engaging and participatory—not long\, passive webinars. Each session is a highly interactive experience led by seasoned professionals who guide you through real-world scenarios\, practical questions\, and in-depth examples. The small-group format fosters active learning\, with dynamic visual presentations\, rich photo content\, and practical applications tailored for aspiring and practicing inspectors alike. Open dialogue is encouraged throughout the session to ensure concepts are clearly understood and applicable in the field. Come ready to engage—your questions\, insights\, and participation are central to the learning experience. \nWho Should Attend \nThis course is designed for: \n\nLicensed Home Inspectors seeking to expand their knowledge of EV charging systems and updated lighting circuit requirements\n\n\nNew Home Inspectors preparing for certification exams and wanting to stay current with evolving electrical codes\n\n\nHome Inspectors aiming to stay current with modern residential and commercial electrical systems\, code changes\, and reporting practices\n\nDuration: 3 Hours \nPlease note: The virtual class has a final exam\, which must be completed for CE credit. This exam can be completed at the end of the class or any time after. \nApproved for 3 ASHI & State CE in AL\, DE\, IN\, MS\, MT\, NH\, NM\, OR\, PA\, VA\, WV\, WI\, LA\, MD\, OH\, TX\, TN\, WA and ICC \nPennsylvania & Iowa Notice: Pennsylvania and Iowa do not approve continuing education for home inspectors. PA & IA inspectors must meet the CE requirements of their national association. This virtual class is approved for ASHI Continuing Education CE credit \nLog in for member pricing of $99! Non member  price $129 \nRegister by: July 20\, 2026 \nRegister Today!
