DESCRIPTION:Certified Residential Thermographer (CRT) – Virtual Training \nASHI Residential Thermographer Digital Badge Class \nThis comprehensive two-day\, live virtual training is led by Bill Fabian of Monroe Infrared Technologies\, a Guidant Power\, Inc. company\, and delivered in partnership with ASHI\, providing the full Certified Residential Thermography (CRT) curriculum. Designed for new infrared camera owners and practicing thermographers\, this class offers a complete introduction to thermal imaging and its practical application across residential and light commercial inspection environments. \nParticipants will explore the fundamentals of infrared thermography\, including heat transfer principles and the operation of thermal imaging systems. The class emphasizes real-world inspection applications in building envelope analysis\, electrical and mechanical systems\, HVAC performance\, moisture intrusion\, flat roof assessment\, and related conditions. Attendees will learn how to collect accurate thermal data and temperature readings while accounting for critical measurement variables such as emissivity\, reflectivity\, transmissivity\, and distance. \nSpecial focus is placed on understanding the conditions that make anomalies detectable\, including concepts such as evaporative cooling and thermal capacitance. Through instructor-led demonstrations\, case studies\, and application-focused exercises\, participants will develop the ability to interpret thermographic images (thermograms) and apply both qualitative and introductory quantitative analysis to support informed inspection decisions. \nThe training also addresses common challenges and errors in thermography\, helping participants distinguish between true thermal anomalies and misleading artifacts such as reflections\, indirect readings\, and environmental influences. By the end of the class\, attendees will be better prepared to confidently integrate infrared technology into their inspection services and produce clear\, accurate findings. \nThis class is suitable for individuals with no prior thermography experience\, though familiarity with basic camera operation is recommended to maximize learning outcomes. \nCredentials and Recognition\nParticipants who successfully complete all class requirements will earn the Certified Residential Thermographer (CRT) certification through Monroe Infrared Technologies\, a Guidant Power Inc. Company\, valid for three years. In addition\, participants will receive the ASHI Residential Thermographer Digital Badge\, recognizing their ability to apply infrared thermography principles in residential inspection practice. \nClass Objectives: By the end of this class\, participants will be able to: \n\nExplain the fundamental principles of infrared thermography and heat transfer as they apply to building systems\nApply key measurement concepts (emissivity\, reflectivity\, transmissivity\, and distance) to improve accuracy in thermal imaging\nIdentify conditions that make anomalies detectable\, including moisture-related effects such as evaporative cooling and thermal capacitance\nDemonstrate proper techniques for collecting reliable thermal images and temperature data using an infrared camera\nInterpret thermographic images to assess conditions in building envelope\, electrical\, mechanical\, and HVAC systems\nEvaluate common sources of error in thermography and apply strategies to avoid misinterpretation\n\nDuration: 16 Hours \nPlease note: The virtual class has a final exam\, which must be completed for CE credit.
