Michael Collins-Smythe founded The Inspection Company of Georgia, Inc. in February 2002 and has spent more than 24 years inspecting residential properties throughout Metro Atlanta and North Georgia.

His experience with residential construction began long before entering the inspection profession. Growing up around family members involved in carpentry and construction gave Michael an early understanding of residential building methods, structural systems, materials, and workmanship. That practical background ultimately became the foundation for his career in property inspection.

Michael earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Oglethorpe University and subsequently completed professional training in residential inspection and building systems. Today, he holds the International Code Council (ICC) Residential Combination Inspector certification, demonstrating proficiency in the residential building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical provisions of the International Residential Code.

He is also an ASHI Certified Inspector (ACI) with the American Society of Home Inspectors. Michael has been actively involved in the profession beyond his own inspection practice, including serving as President of ASHI Georgia from 2011–2012 and mentoring other inspectors entering and advancing within the industry.

During his career, Michael has inspected homes ranging from historic properties and conventional single-family residences to new construction and extensively rehabilitated properties. His work also includes residential rehabilitation assessments, construction and repair verification inspections, code-related evaluations, and inspections performed for municipal, nonprofit, and community-development housing programs throughout the Atlanta area.

That breadth of experience provides a perspective that extends beyond simply identifying isolated defects. Michael evaluates how a home's structural, roofing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, exterior, and interior systems interact, while considering construction practices, building age, previous repairs and modifications, and applicable residential standards.

The Inspection Company of Georgia was built around a commitment to thoroughness, independence, technical competence, and clear communication. Michael's objective is to provide clients with an accurate understanding of a property's condition, distinguish significant concerns from routine maintenance issues, and explain findings in practical terms that homeowners, buyers, housing professionals, and contractors can understand.

Since founding the company in 2002, Michael has continued to pursue advanced technical education in residential construction, building codes, inspection practices, and evolving building technologies. His combination of hands-on construction knowledge, extensive field experience, professional certification, and industry leadership remains the foundation of every inspection performed by The Inspection Company of Georgia.
