Meet the Nominee: Scott Johnson
2024 ASHI Elections
I Want to Hear From You, Talk to Me
The inspection profession is changing, again. Technologies are evolving. Systems are more sophisticated. New tools are becoming available. Companies that support home inspectors with software, products, and services are consolidating. Younger inspectors are entering the field. It’s time for a measured response to this new normal.
That’s where I come in. My name is Scott Johnson. I believe in ASHI. I am acutely aware of the challenges ahead of us. I will use my lifetime of experience as a servant leader to facilitate this change. I will enhance our focus to build relevance and to solidify our direction. There is much to be done.
I know times are tough. A combination of factors including interest rates and inventory shortages are driving buyers to wave inspections. I will promote the importance of getting an inspection and work towards developing new income streams home inspectors can incorporate into their business models.
CHAPTERS: Mentorship at the local level is integral to our growth and improvement. Chapters matter because they can keep members informed and involved at local levels. Some chapters are thriving while others are struggling. I’m encouraged by the hybrid meeting formats that many of our more successful chapters are implementing. By leveraging web-based technologies, they are merging the better aspects of the two most common meeting formats. Under my leadership, this kind of out-of-the-box thinking is what I will use to carry us into a prosperous future.
Maybe the chapter model does not work for you. That’s Okay. You deserve to have a voice. I will work to either use our existing infrastructure or to implement an alternate communications avenue. I want to hear from you. I want to work with you.
EDUCATION / TRAINING: Many of you have expressed that you have seen improvements in the ASHI Education offerings. I agree, and I will continue to move these efforts forward. ASHI must deliver top-level training. We have the human resources and technology to do this well. As president, I will work with the Finance Committee and the Board to direct assets and encouragement to build and improve ASHI Edge, continuing to promote it as the premier home inspector training opportunity.
A VOICE IN WASHINGTON: ASHI is, and has been, the home inspector’s voice in Washington. I intend to stay in touch with national issues as they relate to our profession, ensuring that both our members and the home-buying public are supported and protected. I am also closely monitoring what’s going on in the states, including new legislation designed to protect our profession.
TEAMWORK: I believe in us. I believe in our ability to work together for the common good. Mentorship is a two-way street. Experienced members are positioned to share wisdom that only comes with time. The next generation brings its grasp of the new technology. I will strive to bring these two constituencies to the common table of mutual respect and growth.
SERVICE: Yes, there are issues at ASHI. I hear your concerns. Working together, the Board of Directors and I will be proactive. We are developing new initiatives. I will work to ensure that communication avenues between membership, leadership and staff are open and navigable. We must all work together to see our common vision to fruition.
It’s time for ASHI to redefine itself. I’m proud to have worked with the Board and staff for the last four years to modernize our systems. I have enjoyed brainstorming and developing new and exciting member benefits that I can’t wait to share with you.
I want to meet each and every one of you. Please reach out. Let’s talk. I want to know what you are thinking. I want to hear your suggestions. I want to focus my attention on what is most needed for the success of our Society. I do that best when we communicate.
