From the Speaker
Learning About the Council of Representatives
Education has been the topic of several of my previous messages. We talked about chapters, InspectionWorld, trade schools, colleges and vendors. Education provided online and face-to-face.
Now, the council has been afforded an opportunity to educate its own members and to educate the leaders from all levels of our society.
The group leaders and I were fortunate to have an opportunity to discuss the plans for the Leadership Training Conference with the Chapter Relations Committee (CRC). We came to the conclusion that an educational session about the council would be beneficial to all.
The session will allow all attendees to get a first-hand view of the council, specifically, what is required of a representative, as well as what is required of the chapters and of ASHI. All must work together as one for just one entity, our society’s members. Our membership requires no less.
The session will offer more than a reading of the ASHI Bylaws and the council’s Policy & Procedures, all of which any member could read on the ASHI Web site. What will be offered is a chance to review exactly what the council is, what it means to ASHI, and how it serves as a conduit from and to the members.
The council has the important function of spearheading the two committees that not only choose the slate of our
national officers, but just as importantly, the slate and election of our directors as well. This authority can be traced back to the council’s conception in 1994. The system worked then and continues to work today.
The council has been involved with the election of 14 of our fine past presidents and over 70 of our national directors. The council will continue to fulfill its assigned obligations.
As speaker, I invite all current and future council members to attend LTC this October. I also invite the present and future leaders of our society to attend LTC. I believe the conference will be rewarding and the knowledge gained will justify the cost of attending.
Education is the means to success … success in oneself and one’s chapter. We all want to succeed. So, why not attend and improve. Bring back to your chapter the knowledge for a successful and vital entity that can only prove our society is the best … top of the world and second to none!
Before and after the conference, please join in on the ASHI discussion forum!
